I have some animal shaped weights and a small statue from Burma. Does anyone still use this site please, if so I would like to post some photos? Thanks RichIMG_0853.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)IMG_0854.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)IMG_0855.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)IMG_0856.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)IMG_0857.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)IMG_0858.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Thanks Rich for posting this miniature bronze of a monk, probably Burmese or Shan.
Please compare with Otto Karow, Burmese Buddhist Scultpure - The Johan Möger Collection, page 103 (#82).
Itinerant monk with staff and fan (standing).
See also Sivali at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C4%ABvali

Look forward to see the Burmese weights from your collection.
Best regards
Michael

Dear Michael, Thank you very much for you informative reply. I love the reference to Sivali and the photo on wikipedia. Now looking more closely at the small statue I see that the monk is quite peaceful in countenance. There is a copy of the Otto Karow book available at John Randall books. I have asked them if it is possible to get a photo of page 103 but suspect that, with 50,000 books in their warehouse, they may be busy with other commitments.

I have attached a few photos of my motley crew of weights. I have only sent a few photos as I suspect that you will be able to tell, at a glance, if they are genuine. I am happy to take better quality photos of each piece if you wish.

Thank you very much for your kindness and consideration.

Best wishes, Rich.

Thanks, Rich! Nice Chinthe 2B weights with 9-rayed star mark (The 2 tical weight has a nice small star under the base). Please compare with photos and explanations in Hartmut's gallery here in the forum: Gallery of Hartmut Mollat

For the Burmese weights please see our publication in Arts of Asia 2013 (Special Burma Issue, May - June 2013, Vol. 43 No. 3): https://www.opiumgewichte.com/index_bookshop.htm

Have a nice Sunday!
Michael

Hi Michael, thank you for your comments, links and the reference to the magazine which I will buy as a companion to the weights.

I purchased the weights in Burma 30+ years ago, the time in Burma was a magnificent adventure, especially when we left the official tour, traveled freely and met wonderful, friendly and warm people. Talking with you on the forum has brought back many vivid memories of an amazing country and people, the Shwedagon, watching the sunset from the top terraces of the temples in Pagan, many magical times and I'm happy to have the weights as a memento of those times.

Thanks and very best wishes, Rich.
